Regarding the 1987 remix, Richard Carpenter had this to say in the TREASURES (JP) liner notes:

“I like to take certain songs that were originally made in a more uptempo feeling and arrange them as ballads. Of course, we did this with “Ticket To Ride” amongst others, and the same idea was used on “Baby It’s You” which first achieved popularity as performed by the Shirelles. It’s a Burt Bacharach melody of course, and I feel it works as a ballad and shows Karen’s voice extremely well. Remixed for this album [TREASURES], the bass has been deleted in the first verse, as we found recorded static on the bass track (Quite noticeable on CD).”
